After the pilot program ended on June 30, 2026, South Korea changed the income thresholds for some digital nomad visa applicants and extended the maximum stay from two to three years. Applicants aged 18–34 planning to live outside Greater Seoul can qualify with income equal to the previous year’s GNI per capita, while the visa still does not permit employment in South Korea.
The sources confirm that the F-1-D rules are now in effect: some applicants choosing locations outside Greater Seoul face a lower income threshold, and the maximum stay has increased to three years. This makes relocation more accessible for remote workers willing to live outside Seoul, but moving to Greater Seoul can trigger a higher income requirement at renewal. The visa remains limited to remote work for an overseas business or company, so taking a local job would require a status change. The update is particularly important for digital nomads and families planning a longer stay in South Korea.
