South Korea Eases Digital Nomad Visa Requirements and Extends Stay to Three Years

Published: 29.07.2026

After the pilot program ended on June 30, 2026, South Korea changed the income requirements and maximum stay period for its digital nomad visa. Applicants aged 18–34 planning to live outside Greater Seoul can qualify with income equal to Korea’s annual GNI per capita, while the maximum stay has increased from two to three years.

According to sources, the revised rules are most beneficial for younger remote workers who choose locations outside Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi Province: they face a lower income threshold and can stay for up to three years. Applicants aged 35 and over and those planning to live in Greater Seoul still face higher income requirements, making the intended place of residence a key visa condition. The visa continues to permit work for an overseas employer or clients outside Korea, not employment in Korea, and applicants must provide proof of income, relevant work experience and health insurance. This is highly relevant to digital nomads and families planning a long-term move, who should match their intended location to the applicable income threshold and prepare documentation for dependents.
