Serbia Proposes Equal Fees for Payments by Foreign and Serbian Cards

Published: 14.06.2026

Under a new draft law, limits on bank fees would also apply to cards issued abroad when they are used at Serbian points of sale and Serbian websites. At the time of publication, the draft was in the public-consultation stage, which ended on 11 June 2026.

If adopted, the proposal would give foreign-card holders the same fee-limit regime as users of cards issued in Serbia. For people relocating, this could reduce the cost of everyday card payments in shops and on Serbian websites, but the measure is still a draft rather than an operative rule. It primarily affects new residents and others who continue using foreign cards after moving. According to sources, it is worth monitoring for anyone planning to rely on an overseas account during the initial period, but it is too early to change payment arrangements based on the proposal alone.
