  An initiative submitted by the Save Romania Union (USR) would allow foreign spouses of Romanian citizens to apply for Romanian citizenship while living abroad. The proposed condition is that the marriage must have been registered in Romanian civil-status records for at least 10 years.

  From March 2, 2026, the European Entry/Exit System (EES) is due to operate at all Romanian border crossing points. It will record entries and exits of third-country nationals and manage their stays.
