Kazakhstan Intensifies Enforcement of Migration Rules

Published: 19.10.2026

From 5 to 16 October, Kazakhstan conducted the Nelegal operation, during which more than 15,800 migration-law violations were identified. Administrative penalties were imposed on 7,595 foreigners for violating stay rules and on 3,899 for illegal employment; 236 foreigners were forcibly deported and banned from entering Kazakhstan for five years.

According to the source, the operation affected not only foreigners but also employers, landlords and other parties involved in registering or employing migrants. For people relocating, this signals heightened scrutiny of stay registration, residence notifications, lawful employment and required permits. The most serious consequence is deportation followed by a five-year entry ban for certain violations. The development is worth noting for all foreigners planning a long stay or employment in Kazakhstan, especially those relying on a host party to arrange housing and migration formalities.
