Kazakhstan Adopts New Tax Registration Rules, Including Registration of Non-Resident Companies Before Opening Accounts

Published: 17.09.2026

New tax-registration rules will take effect on 1 January 2026. A non-resident legal entity opening a current account with a Kazakhstan bank must register as a taxpayer before opening the account and submit a tax application with the required documents.

The sources introduce an additional administrative step for non-resident companies planning to open a current account with a Kazakhstan bank: tax registration must come first. For relocating entrepreneurs and investors, this may affect the sequence and timing of business setup and access to banking services. The rule concerns non-resident legal entities rather than ordinary personal accounts held by foreigners. It is therefore particularly relevant to people moving a company or business operations to Kazakhstan and planning to open a corporate account.
