Citizens of 85 countries eligible for visa-free travel to Kazakhstan will need a QazETA electronic authorization, including for transit. The system will be introduced in stages from November 1, 2026, and from July 1, 2027, travelers without authorization may be denied entry; applications are free and must be submitted at least 72 hours before travel.
According to sources, QazETA does not replace Kazakhstan’s visa-free regime or change permitted lengths of stay, but it adds a prior authorization requirement for most visa-free travelers. Until June 30, 2027, the system is transitional and lack of authorization alone will not justify refusal, while from July 1, 2027, it will become mandatory. This matters especially to tourists, business travelers, transit passengers, digital nomads and people entering before arranging a longer-term status; visa, temporary-residence and residence-permit holders are exempt if they have supporting documents. Travelers should plan for the 72-hour application deadline and use the same passport at the border.
