Kazakhstan to Introduce Paid Electronic Entry Permits for Visa-Free Foreigners

Published: 01.09.2026

From November 1, 2026, Kazakhstan will begin introducing mandatory paid electronic entry permits for foreigners from visa-free countries, including Russian citizens. Applications through the QazETA platform must be submitted at least 72 hours before travel; the permit will be valid for 180 calendar days and allow multiple entries.

Visa-free travel to Kazakhstan will gain an additional pre-travel digital step: visitors will need to apply through QazETA at least 72 hours before crossing the border and pay for the permit. In the longer term, this will make spontaneous trips less convenient and add an entry-related cost, while a single permit is designed to cover multiple trips during a 180-day validity period. The change primarily affects Russian citizens and other foreigners who currently enter without a visa or permit. People planning relocation or frequent travel should account for the new procedure when arranging trips after November 1, 2026; according to sources, the system is being introduced in stages.
