Balikpapan deported nine foreigners for immigration violations

Published: 08.10.2026

From January to October 2026, Balikpapan immigration authorities deported nine foreigners for activities inconsistent with the declared purpose of their visas or residence permits, as well as for overstaying. Authorities are checking foreigners’ documents and activities to ensure compliance with permit conditions.

According to sources, Indonesian authorities are actively comparing foreigners’ actual activities with the stated purpose of their visas or residence permits at the regional level. For people relocating to Indonesia, this means a higher practical risk of penalties when working, doing business, or engaging in other activities outside the permitted status, as well as when failing to extend documents on time. Workers, entrepreneurs, and long-term permit holders are most directly affected. It is worth noting as an enforcement signal, although it does not introduce a new nationwide rule.
