Indonesia’s immigration authorities are considering reviewing visa-free access for certain countries after cases emerged in which residence permits were allegedly used by scam groups operating in the country. The authorities linked any review to stronger screening and preventive measures.
The authorities are considering a possible review rather than announcing an immediate change to entry rules. If adopted, such measures could affect nationals of selected countries using visa-free entry and make border screening more consequential. For ordinary tourists and people planning a move, this does not yet mean that the visa regime has changed, but applicants from potentially affected countries should monitor official decisions before travel. The development is most relevant to those relying on visa-free entry.
