Indonesia’s Directorate General of Immigration is working with tax and other authorities to review work visas and possible tax rules for foreign remote workers. The review addresses permit compliance, taxation, and oversight of digital nomad activity.
According to sources, Indonesia is conducting an inter-agency review rather than introducing a new rule for digital nomads. The eventual outcome could bring clearer visa and tax requirements for people who live physically in Indonesia while working for overseas employers. This is particularly relevant to remote workers planning long stays in Bali and other popular destinations. It is worth monitoring for anyone choosing Indonesia as a remote-work base, but the review itself does not yet require an immediate status change.
