Indonesia reports a 74.8% rise in immigration enforcement against foreigners

Published: 20.10.2026

Indonesia’s immigration authorities carried out 17,597 administrative enforcement actions against foreigners in January–September 2026, up 74.8% year on year. The measures included residence-permit cancellations, deportations, proposed entry bans and detentions, with authorities attributing the increase to stronger digital monitoring.

According to sources, Indonesia has significantly intensified enforcement of immigration rules for foreigners, including through digital monitoring and permit checks. For people relocating, mistakes in documents or breaches of stay conditions carry greater practical consequences, including permit cancellation, deportation or a proposed entry ban. This is most relevant to foreigners holding long-stay permits, working in Indonesia or conducting activities that must match the stated purpose of stay. Prospective movers should treat compliance with visa and residence conditions as a high priority.
