Greek Government Presents a Bill on Legal Migration

Published: 04.02.2026

The Greek government presented a bill providing for faster issuance and renewal of residence permits with a minimum validity of two years, as well as new categories including the Talent Visa, Tech Visa and Blue Card. The bill also increases penalties for facilitating illegal entry and transporting people who do not have the right to enter Greece.

According to the sources, the bill combines broader legal routes for skilled workers with tougher measures against irregular entry and migrant transport. For prospective workers, it could create additional application pathways, but at the time of presentation it was still a bill rather than an operative procedure. The higher penalties primarily affect carriers, intermediaries and organisations assisting illegal entry or stay. Legal migrants are affected only indirectly, but applicants planning to relocate through employment or highly skilled-worker routes should follow the initiative’s progress.
