Since February 6, 2026, Greece has offered a Tech Visa for work at registered technology start-ups and a Talent Visa for specialists with advanced university qualifications. Both visas are valid for 12 months and can be converted to an EU Blue Card if standard requirements are met; the minimum employment-contract period was also reduced and the post-unemployment stay period extended.
According to sources, the reform creates two distinct routes for foreign specialists: the Tech Visa grants immediate work authorization, while the Talent Visa allows entry to search for employment but does not itself authorize work before a contract is secured. Holders of work permits now have a longer period to remain in Greece after losing employment—up to three months, or up to six months after two years of work in the country. This is particularly relevant to technology professionals and other qualified workers seeking a more flexible route toward employment authorization and a potential EU Blue Card. Applicants should pay close attention to the Tech Visa’s employer-specific nature and to the EU Blue Card eligibility requirements when changing status.
