Greece’s tax authority, AADE, is launching a new round of cross-checks on income and assets using information received from 93 countries. The checks cover bank interest, dividends, pensions, business profits, transactions through digital payment providers and cryptocurrency investments.
For Greek tax residents, this means closer scrutiny of foreign income and assets, as sources say Greece is receiving information from a broad network of countries and financial centres. In the future, people relocating with foreign bank accounts, investments, pensions or digital assets will need to reconcile overseas information carefully with their Greek tax filings. The measure primarily affects new and existing Greek tax residents and holders of accounts abroad. It is worth attention for anyone planning to spend more than 183 days in Greece or already declaring Greece as their tax residence, because it directly affects financial planning and reporting compliance.
