Greece’s New Immigration Law Enters into Force

Published: 12.05.2026

Law 5275/2026 entered into force on 6 February 2026 and replaced or consolidated substantial parts of Greece’s previous Immigration Code. It changes application rules, eligibility criteria and processing procedures for digital nomads, investors and other foreign nationals.

According to the source, the reform affects the main relocation process: where required, applicants must obtain a Type D visa, register after arrival and submit a residence-permit application within the prescribed period. For applicants, this means checking requirements under the new law because eligibility criteria and application procedures have changed. The development is especially relevant to digital nomads, investors, foreign specialists and employers hiring third-country nationals. Anyone preparing a move or assembling documents should pay attention, since materials based on the former Immigration Code may no longer describe the current framework.
