Türkiye Details 20-Year Foreign-Income Exemption and Asset Declaration Regime

Published: 04.07.2026

Qualifying individuals who relocate to Türkiye and had no residence or tax liability there during the previous three calendar years may receive a 20-year exemption from Turkish income tax on foreign-source income and gains. Until July 31, 2027, a separate regime allows certain foreign-held and unrecorded domestic assets to be declared; the standard advance tax is 5%, with lower rates available when assets are held for specified periods.

According to the sources, relocating to Türkiye may substantially reduce the tax burden on foreign-source income for certain new tax residents for up to 20 years. Eligibility is tied to having no Turkish residence or tax liability during the preceding three calendar years, making the rule especially relevant to people transferring their tax residence. Owners of foreign assets must also consider a separate procedure: assets have to be declared by July 31, 2027 and transferred to a Turkish bank or brokerage account within two months to use the regime. This is highly relevant for affluent relocants, investors and entrepreneurs, although they should verify eligibility and the cost of compliance before moving.
