According to the sources, legislation published on 4 June 2026 exempts qualifying foreign-source income and gains of certain individuals who become Turkish tax residents from Turkish income tax for 20 years. It also introduces an “Asset Peace” regime for declaring certain foreign-held and unrecorded domestic assets, generally subject to a one-off tax of 5% of the declared value.
For qualifying new tax residents, the measure could materially reduce the tax burden on foreign-source income during the first 20 years after relocation. In the longer term, it may affect decisions about moving to or remaining tax resident in Türkiye, particularly for people with income, assets, or investments outside the country. The separate asset-declaration regime is relevant to individuals seeking to regularize certain previously undeclared assets through the Turkish tax system. Prospective tax residents and investors should pay close attention because the exemption is not automatic for everyone; this event updates the previously recorded 20-year tax incentive.
