European Parliament Notes No Progress on Visa Liberalisation for Turkish Citizens

Published: 24.02.2026

The European Parliament stated that Türkiye has not yet met the required conditions for visa liberalisation with the EU. The document also calls for improved visa access, particularly for business travel and Erasmus students.

According to the source, there has been no automatic progress toward visa-free travel between Türkiye and the EU because six conditions remain outstanding. Turkish citizens planning to relocate, work, study or conduct business in the EU should expect the visa process and related administrative barriers to remain in place. The document does not introduce a new restriction on entry into Türkiye or change Turkish residence-permit rules. It is mainly relevant to Turkish citizens, students and professionals whose relocation plans involve the EU, and has limited value for people moving to Türkiye.
