Thailand moves work-permit applications to an electronic system

Published: 03.10.2026

Work permits are now processed through the Department of Employment’s electronic system and issued as digital documents instead of the former paper booklet. Standard employment under a Non-Immigrant B visa still requires a Thai employer, supporting company documents and a separate work permit.

The move to an electronic system mainly changes the application process, not the underlying requirement to hold a work permit for employment in Thailand. Employees and employers must account for the digital document format and prepare evidence concerning the company, position and qualifications. Tourist or visa-exempt entry does not itself provide work authorization, and unauthorized work can result in fines, deportation and a ban on new permits. According to the source, this is particularly relevant to employees, directors and employers arranging lawful employment in Thailand.
