The EU introduced a visa-cascade system for Thai nationals residing in Thailand who apply for short-stay Schengen visas. Applicants who have lawfully used a Schengen visa within the previous two years may become eligible for a one-year multiple-entry visa, followed by two- and five-year visas for frequent travellers.
According to the source, Thai nationals with a positive visa history will have an easier route to longer-validity multiple-entry Schengen visas. This may reduce the need for repeated visa applications for travel and short stays in the Schengen Area, but it does not create a right to relocate or work there. The change primarily affects Thai citizens residing in Thailand who travel to Europe regularly. It is worth noting for people planning frequent trips or considering a future move to Europe, while long-term residence still requires a separate national permit.
