Thailand’s Cabinet has extended by one year, until 30 June 2027, a scheme addressing the nationality and legal status of long-term migrants and certain children born in the country. Eligibility criteria remain unchanged; the extension was approved because registration progress has been limited.
According to sources, eligible long-term migrants and certain children born in Thailand now have an additional year to apply for confirmation of residence rights or nationality. The measure primarily affects people who have lived in the country for a long time, cannot return to their country of origin, and lack evidence of another nationality, as well as families whose children fall within the specified categories. The extension provides more time to assemble documents and approach the relevant registration authorities, but it does not broaden the programme’s eligibility criteria. It is not a change to the ordinary visa route for someone newly relocating to Thailand, but it is significant for people already covered by the scheme.
