From 8 October 2026, Thai banks must request source-of-funds documents for specified foreign-currency inflows of USD 200,000 or more. Supporting documents are required for gold-related transactions regardless of value, while cash foreign-currency purchases above USD 15,000 require additional evidence.
According to sources, people transferring large amounts into Thailand now need to prepare clearer evidence of the funds’ origin and the purpose of the transaction. The change primarily affects investors, asset owners and people moving substantial sums for property purchases, investments or relocation expenses. Ordinary transfers below the threshold face less demanding procedures, while transactions in monitored categories receive stricter scrutiny. This is worth attention for anyone planning a large international transfer or funding a foreign-currency account.
