Thailand Restricts Repeated Visa-Exemption Entries

Published: 04.12.2025

From 12 November 2025, Thailand’s Immigration Bureau strengthened enforcement against so-called visa runs. Entry may be denied after more than two such entries in a calendar year without a valid reason, with additional screening at border checkpoints.

According to the source, repeated exit-and-reentry trips are no longer a dependable strategy for maintaining a long-term stay: entry may be denied after more than two visa runs in a year without a justifiable reason. This increases the importance of obtaining an appropriate visa in advance, such as a tourist, business, education, retirement, or marriage visa. Long-stay tourists, digital nomads, and business travelers who relied on visa-exempt entries are most affected. Anyone planning frequent or extended stays should factor the rule into their timeline and documentation planning.
