Thailand Replaces the 60-Day Tourist Visa Exemption with 30- and 15-Day Categories

Published: 04.09.2026

From 15 September 2026, Thailand ended its 60-day tourist visa-exemption scheme. Nationals of 60 countries and territories may enter visa-free for up to 30 days, nationals of Mauritius and Seychelles for up to 15 days, while Visa on Arrival remains available to nationals of Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia.

According to sources, short-term visa-free access to Thailand is now substantially shorter for travellers who previously relied on the 60-day scheme. This directly affects long winter stays, trial relocations and frequent travel, so the permitted period and entry category should be checked by nationality before departure. Travellers who entered before 15 September retain the period granted to them, while new arrivals must plan around 30 or 15 days or obtain another visa. The change is especially important for non-residents using tourist entry as an initial step toward relocation.
