Thailand’s Cabinet Approves Revised Visa-Exemption and Visa-on-Arrival Rules

Published: 10.08.2026

Thailand’s Cabinet approved a shift from the current 60-day visa-exemption framework to nationality-based categories offering 30 or 15 days of visa-free stay, or a visa on arrival. The draft announcements still require publication in the Royal Gazette, and the measures will take effect 15 days after publication.

According to the source, Thailand plans to materially shorten standard visa-free stays for some foreigners and divide access into 30-day, 15-day, and visa-on-arrival categories based on nationality. Travelers planning to enter after the measures take effect will need to verify the category applicable to their passport, while companies should review plans relying on the current 60-day regime. People who enter before the change takes effect may remain for their already permitted stay, and separate bilateral arrangements will continue. This is particularly relevant to non-residents and frequent travelers, who should monitor Royal Gazette publication and Thai official updates before booking travel.
