Thailand strengthens entry controls and targets visa misuse

Published: 06.06.2026

Thailand’s immigration authorities are conducting a “No Entry, No Stay, No Escape” campaign targeting suspicious entries, illegal work and transnational crime. Authorities reported 29,490 denied entries, 668 revoked student visas and 14,161 overstayers and illegal workers arrested for deportation processing.

According to sources, Thailand is tightening pre-entry screening, monitoring compliance with visa conditions and conducting enforcement operations inside the country. The campaign primarily affects people making frequent visa runs, those unable to substantiate the purpose or funds for a trip, and students or volunteers working without authorisation. For lawful visitors, workers and residents, the practical effect is more intensive screening, while violations may lead to visa cancellation and deportation. People planning a move or long stay should pay attention and ensure that their visa purpose and immigration status match their actual activities.
