From 8 October 2026, banks must request source-of-funds documents for foreign-currency inflows of USD 200,000 or more involving transactions on the enhanced watchlist; gold-related proceeds require documents regardless of amount. Foreign-currency cash purchases above USD 15,000 also require evidence that the cash was brought into Thailand or obtained from an authorised exchange business.
According to the sources, large foreign-currency inflows into Thailand now require more detailed documentary proof, especially when the funds come from property sales to foreigners, digital assets or gold. For someone relocating with substantial capital, this means keeping clear source-of-funds records and allowing for additional bank checks when money is credited to a Thai account. The rule primarily affects Thai residents, investors and account holders handling large transactions. It is worth noting for anyone planning to transfer significant funds for property, investment or settlement after moving.
