Sri Lanka has launched a Digital Nomad Visa for foreign nationals over 18 who work remotely for overseas employers or operate businesses registered abroad. The visa allows a one-year stay subject to proof of at least USD 2,000 in monthly foreign-exchange inflows; local employment and domestic business operations are prohibited.
According to the source, the programme creates a dedicated long-term route for remote professionals with foreign income: applicants must demonstrate monthly inflows of at least USD 2,000, and the residence period is one year. Applicants must submit police clearance certificates and medical reports, after which their cases are reviewed by immigration and defence authorities. The visa is suitable for digital nomads working for foreign companies or running overseas online businesses, but it does not permit local employment or domestic business operations. It is particularly relevant to remote workers and families because holders may enrol their children in international or private schools.
