TIN required for selected banking and property-related transactions from 1 November

Published: 02.11.2026

From 1 November 2026, a valid Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) will be required for opening bank accounts, registering a business, land or a vehicle, obtaining a credit card and several other transactions. The TIN can be obtained and verified through the Inland Revenue Department’s online services; non-resident individuals are exempt from submitting the certificate subject to the applicable residency conditions.

According to the sources, the TIN is becoming a mandatory administrative document for access to bank accounts and several transactions commonly needed after relocation. Residents should arrange a TIN and retain proof of its validity; obtaining one does not by itself mean that income tax is payable. Non-residents, including some recently arrived foreign nationals, need to establish their residency status if relying on the exemption. This is particularly relevant to anyone planning to open an account, register a business or vehicle, or obtain a credit card after 1 November 2026.
