Spain announces temporary regularisation for some migrants already in the country

Published: 06.02.2026

The measure applies to people who arrived in Spain before 31 December 2025 and can prove at least five months of residence; applications are due to be accepted between April and June. Successful applicants may receive temporary residence permits with the right to work, but the amnesty does not cover new arrivals and does not grant citizenship or automatic permanent residence.

According to the source, Spain is preparing a large but temporary regularisation programme for some people already living in the country without full legal status. The stated conditions include proving continuous residence, arriving before 31 December 2025 and having no criminal record; possible evidence includes municipal registration, rental contracts or employment documents. For eligible applicants, the programme creates a route to temporary residence and legal work, but it does not replace the standard relocation route from abroad. The measure is particularly important for migrants and workers already in Spain without status; new applicants and tourists are not covered.
