Spain has opened an extraordinary regularisation procedure for people already in the country without valid status and certain applicants for international protection. Applicants must prove presence in Spain before 1 January 2026, at least five months of continuous residence, no criminal record and no threat to public order; applications are open from 16 April to 30 June 2026.
According to the sources, successful applicants receive the right to live and work in Spain for an initial one-year period, with access to Social Security, after which they can move into ordinary immigration statuses. This is not a new route for people planning to move from abroad, but a temporary regularisation option for those already in Spain who can document their period of residence and meet the additional conditions. It primarily affects migrants without valid status and applicants for international protection, including families and vulnerable people. Those already in Spain should pay close attention to the deadline and evidence requirements; it does not directly change the options for prospective movers.
