Spain opens extraordinary regularisation for migrants already residing in the country

Published: 14.04.2026

From 16 April to 30 June 2026, people who were in Spain before 1 January 2026 and have remained there continuously for at least five months can apply for extraordinary regularisation. Applicants who meet the requirements, including having no criminal record and posing no threat to public order, receive an initial one-year residence and work authorisation.

According to the sources, the measure targets migrants without valid status and certain international-protection applicants who are already in Spain; applications can be submitted online or in person by appointment. Admission of an application grants the right to live and work anywhere in Spain and in any sector, while after the first year beneficiaries must move into the ordinary immigration routes. Families should note that minors residing in Spain can be regularised at the same time and receive a five-year authorisation. This is highly relevant for people already in Spain who can prove the required period of residence, but it does not create a new relocation route for people planning to enter from abroad.
