The European Commission published an updated list of Spanish documents recognised as equivalent to residence permits for border-movement purposes. Documents issued under the EU Temporary Protection Directive remain valid in Spain until 4 March 2027 without the need to obtain a new residence card.
According to the source, the update confirms which Spanish cards and other documents can serve as proof of residence when crossing borders. For Ukrainian nationals and other people covered by temporary protection, the key consequence is that existing documents remain valid until 4 March 2027 without a mandatory replacement card. This reduces the risk of urgent re-documentation solely because the original validity period is approaching. The development is most relevant to current temporary-protection holders and people planning travel within the Schengen area; it does not itself create a new immigration route for applicants.
