South Korea Eases Digital Nomad Visa Rules and Extends Stay Period

Published: 17.07.2026

Since June 30, 2026, the F-1-D visa has been available under more flexible conditions for some applicants, including those aged 18–34 who plan to live outside Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi Province. The maximum stay has been extended from two to three years, but the visa allows remote work for an overseas employer rather than employment in South Korea.

According to sources, the main changes are a lower income threshold for younger applicants choosing locations outside the capital region and an extension of the maximum stay to three years. Applicants using the lower threshold must prove that they will live outside Greater Seoul for at least one month, while the requirements for overseas employment, relevant work experience and private health insurance remain in place. The change is particularly relevant to remote employees and entrepreneurs serving clients outside South Korea, as well as families accompanying the principal applicant. It deserves attention during the planning stage because the chosen location directly affects the income threshold, and employment with a Korean employer requires separate authorization.
