From 15 July, descendants of former Czechoslovak citizens will be able to apply for Slovak citizenship without holding a Slovak residence permit. Applications for citizenship certificates and confirmations may be submitted electronically, by post, or through Slovak embassies and consulates.
According to the source, the reform makes citizenship by descent more accessible to applicants living abroad. The main changes are the removal of the Slovak residence-permit requirement and the introduction of remote submission options, reducing the need to travel to Slovakia at the initial stage. This primarily affects people with Slovak or former Czechoslovak ancestry who are considering relocation through citizenship, as well as their families. Eligible applicants should pay attention to the reform and prepare evidence of their ancestor’s citizenship.
