Slovakia Considers Tighter Rules for Workers from Third Countries

Published: 03.11.2026

Prime Minister Robert Fico said Slovakia is preparing measures that may include capping the number of temporary workers from selected third countries. The plans also include strengthening the Foreigners Police and introducing additional control measures.

According to the source, the measures are still being prepared and are not yet changes in force. If adopted, limits could make it harder for nationals of selected third countries to obtain temporary work in Slovakia, while checks before and during their stay could become stricter. The development primarily affects prospective labour migrants and employers recruiting outside the EU. People planning a work-based move should monitor further decisions, but should not treat the announced measures as already effective.
