From 1 July, Poland limits free accommodation for Ukrainian refugees to vulnerable groups

Published: 03.11.2026

From 1 July, free accommodation in collective centres remains available to pregnant women, people with disabilities and certain pensioners without a Polish pension or relatives in Poland. The changes are linked to a restructuring of the support system for Ukrainian citizens.

The sources indicate that access to free collective accommodation for Ukrainians is becoming targeted rather than broadly available. This may increase housing costs for people who do not fall into the listed vulnerable categories. The change primarily affects Ukrainians under temporary protection who rely on accommodation after arrival or lack their own housing. Families and other applicants outside the protected groups should factor this into their housing and relocation budgets.
