Poland Clarifies Entry Rules for Foreign Spouses and Partners

Published: 16.04.2026

Nationals of countries outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland generally need a valid passport and a visa to enter Poland unless their nationality is visa-exempt. Stays exceeding 90 days require a national visa or temporary residence permit, while EU, EEA and Swiss citizens may enter with a valid identity and citizenship document.

According to the official portal, being married to or partnered with someone does not by itself remove visa requirements for a spouse or partner from a third country. Short stays are limited to 90 days in any 180-day period, while relocation requires a long-term visa or residence basis. Travellers should account for this before booking travel and prepare evidence of the purpose of stay, sufficient funds and other entry conditions. The rule is particularly relevant to mixed-nationality families and partners planning to move to Poland together.
