From 5 March 2026, the Office for Foreigners no longer issues certificates confirming temporary protection. A PESEL number with UKR status is used as the official confirmation, while an electronic document in the mObywatel app serves as a residence document; certificates issued earlier remain valid until the end of 4 March 2027.
The sources describe a shift from paper certificates to PESEL UKR and the electronic mObywatel document. Holders of older certificates have a transition period, with those documents remaining valid until 4 March 2027; afterward, status must be confirmed through PESEL UKR. This is particularly relevant to Ukrainians relying on temporary protection for residence and work, as employers must notify the district labour office within seven days for a new job. The change is worth tracking when checking documents, taking up employment and planning a longer-term status.
