Poland’s 2026 rules define tax residence and tax reliefs for newcomers

Published: 19.09.2026

A person is treated as a Polish tax resident if Poland is their centre of vital interests or they spend more than 183 days there during the tax year; residents report worldwide income. Certain newcomers may qualify for a four-year exemption covering up to PLN 85,528 of annual income, subject to statutory conditions.

The sources describe Poland’s 2026 rules under which tax residence can arise not only from the number of days spent in the country but also from moving one’s centre of vital interests there. After relocation, this can bring foreign income into the Polish reporting framework, while interest earned on foreign accounts generally has to be declared by the resident personally. At the same time, some new residents may claim a four-year relief, provided they document their previous tax residence and meet the other statutory conditions. The issue is especially important for workers, digital nomads and people who retain income or accounts outside Poland.
