People of Polish origin can obtain indefinite residence with unrestricted access to work

Published: 02.04.2026

Applicants who prove Polish ancestry and a connection to Polish identity may apply for a special residence permit before their current lawful status expires. The permit is issued for an indefinite period and allows work without a separate work permit.

The procedure provides a durable relocation route for people with Polish parents or grandparents, or two Polish great-grandparents. Applicants must prove their ancestry, connection to Polish identity and intention to settle, and submit the application before their current visa or residence status expires. Once granted, the permit removes the need for a separate work permit, simplifying long-term legalisation and employment. It is particularly relevant to people of Polish origin considering Poland as a permanent home rather than a temporary workplace.
