Norway issued 5,002 expulsion orders against foreign nationals in 2025

Published: 23.10.2026

According to UDI statistics, Norwegian authorities issued 5,002 expulsion orders in 2025, including 4,125 linked to immigration-law violations. An expulsion order carries an entry ban for Norway for a specified period and, in serious cases, may also cover the Schengen Area.

The figures show a substantial rise in expulsion enforcement, with orders more than four times higher than in 2021. For people relocating, this highlights the practical consequences of overstaying, working without a valid permit or breaching the conditions of an immigration status. The issue is not limited to third-country nationals: orders were also issued against EU/EEA citizens in 2025, although on more limited grounds. This is worth attention for any foreign national planning to live or work in Norway, especially when monitoring permit and registration obligations.
