Bill would allow entry refusal and residence-permit revocation under international sanctions

Published: 25.02.2026

A bill proposes giving the Minister for Asylum and Migration the power to refuse foreigners entry and residence and to revoke certain residence permits in order to implement international sanctions. The bill also provides for possible state management of frozen real estate.

According to the bill, international sanctions could be enforced through direct immigration measures, including refusal of entry or residence and revocation of certain residence permits. This could affect foreigners in the Netherlands or planning to enter the country if the relevant sanctions apply to them. The proposal does not automatically change the rules while it remains a bill. However, people exposed to sanctions risks and owners of frozen assets should monitor its progress because adoption could affect both residence status and property.
