Moldova to temporarily restrict applications for residence permits and travel documents

Published: 19.10.2026

Due to the rollout of a new information system, Moldova will suspend applications for temporary and permanent residence permits, travel documents, and foreigner registration services on October 29–30, 2026. From November 2 to 12, expedited residence-permit applications will not be accepted; EU citizens and foreigners eligible to stay for employment will receive permits only within 10 working days.

The change affects the availability and processing speed of residence services rather than the underlying right to obtain a permit. According to the source, applicants planning to file documents in late October or early November should account for the service suspension and the temporary loss of expedited processing; EU citizens and employment-based applicants will face a 10-working-day timeline. This matters most to people whose current status, employment, or registration depends on a timely residence application. Other movers should treat it as a temporary operational disruption and schedule their filing in advance.
