Latvia introduces a pre-entry declaration for third-country nationals

Published: 01.07.2026

Third-country nationals must provide Latvia with information before entering the country, including the purpose of travel and details about state employment or military service. The declaration must be submitted 48 hours before entry.

According to sources, the pre-entry declaration adds a mandatory administrative step before travel to Latvia. People relocating will need to prepare information about their travel purpose and background in advance, making last-minute entry less flexible. The rule primarily affects third-country nationals arriving for work, study, or longer-term residence. Anyone planning to enter Latvia after 1 September 2026 should treat this as a required part of travel preparation.
