Kyrgyzstan’s president signed a decree transferring to the Ministry of Labor, Social Security and Migration the processing and issuance of unified permits for foreigners to enter, stay and work, as well as residence cards. A Migration Department will be established within the ministry, while the Cabinet will set procedures for transferring applications and resources.
According to the source, the main change is which government body will handle key migration documents, rather than a change to the substantive conditions for entry or residence. In the longer term, applicants will need to deal with the Ministry of Labor and its new Migration Department, while the Cabinet is to establish a transition process for pending applications. This primarily affects foreigners applying for unified permits or residence cards, as well as applicants with cases already in progress. People planning to move to Kyrgyzstan should follow official announcements from the new authority before submitting documents.
