Collective protection for Ukrainian citizens in Israel remains in force through 2026

Published: 15.10.2026

Israel’s collective protection from deportation for Ukrainian citizens in the country has been extended until 31 December 2026 or until the end of the war in Ukraine. Some applicants are still being refused extensions of individual 2A5 humanitarian status and issued departure orders, whose enforcement is suspended by the collective protection regime.

According to the sources, collective protection allows Ukrainian citizens already in Israel to remain in the country even when an individual 2A5 extension has been refused; employers may also continue employing them. Leaving Israel terminates this protection, and a subsequent return may be treated as a short tourist visit, with a risk of refusal or a substantial deposit requirement. This is particularly important for Ukrainians planning to travel abroad, regularize documents, or continue working in Israel. The event merits attention because a departure can directly affect the ability to remain in the country long term.
