Israel’s immigration authority revoked ETA authorizations for several US rabbis, activists and a politician after their participation in an olive harvest in the West Bank. The recipients may reapply, but the cancellations show that entry permission for short-term visitors can be reconsidered based on the circumstances of an individual case.
The case shows that even an already issued electronic authorization does not guarantee entry until its stated expiry date. This is particularly relevant to activists, volunteers, journalists and business travelers planning short stays who rely on an ETA. It does not change the general process for ordinary tourists, but it makes pre-travel admission checks more important for politically sensitive or community-related activities. People whose trips involve activism or work with Palestinian communities should pay particular attention.
