Israel rejects German journalist’s work visa over political activity

Published: 12.10.2026

Israel’s Population and Immigration Authority rejected a German journalist’s work visa after a recommendation from the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism. The decision cited Amendment 40 to the Entry into Israel Law, which allows authorities to deny entry and visas to individuals deemed to be acting against the state.

According to the source, political publications and calls for sanctions or boycotts may be used as grounds to reject a foreign journalist’s work visa. For professionals who need an Israeli work visa, this creates an additional immigration risk when their public work is closely associated with criticism of the state. The report does not establish a new blanket ban on all foreign workers, but it illustrates how existing powers are being applied. Journalists, researchers and other public-facing professionals should pay particular attention.
